What is a ‘Retiree Council’ ? 

A Retiree Council (RC) networks all the members of NYSUT and NEA who retired from districts in the corresponding Election District (ED) and represents them at the Representative Assembly (RA), etc. 

 
What is ‘RC 45’ ?

Retiree Council 45 is one of the 46 retiree councils in the existing Election Districts established by NYSUT to ensure democratic representation for each retiree.

 
Who belongs to RC 45 ?

Membership includes all NYSUT retirees, including former NEA/NY retirees, from Election District 45.

 
How can I join ?

Membership is automatic upon retirement.

 
What does it cost to join ?

NYSUT does not charge retiree dues. Retiree Council 45 requests you consider making a modest voluntary contribution to offset expenses.

 

What other benefits will I reap as a NYSUT retiree ?

NYSUT retirees receive the statewide publication The New York Teacher, AFT’s national publication, The American Teacher, and RC 45’s newsletter publication, (yet to be named.)

NYSUT offers a wide variety of insurance options for retirees through their Member Benefits.

 

What does RC 45 do ?

 

Social activities will be held throughout the year, including a Fall and Spring luncheon gathering with a general meeting.

Education Opportunities offer information about Health and Wellness, Social Security, Medicare, Technology, Consumer Fraud, and more. 

Political Events offer involvement in phone banks, legislative committees, NYSUT’s Committee of 100, and rallies. 

Information Dispersal takes place through our website, our newsletter, and other mailings of interest.

Board of Director meetings, held at least three times a year, give your elected officers and representatives an opportunity to advocate for all Retiree Council 45 members.

Delegates have the opportunity to attend NYSUT’s Annual Representative Assembly, the AFT Convention, and related meetings.

How is RC 45 represented on the NYSUT Board of Directors ?

Retiree Council 45 is part of Election District (ED) 51, which represents all retirees in upstate New York. ED 51 elects a member to the NYSUT Board of Directors.
