Letting the Governor know we want to talk to him.

What a peaceable assembly looks like.

The fourteen Democratic state senators who walked out of the senate session yesterday continue to stay out of the capitol (and, some speculate, the state). As long as these legislators refuse to come to the senate floor, Walker's extremist legislation cannot proceed forward.

These legislators had the courage to stand up to Gov. Walker's power grab, standing up for the will of the people instead of capitulating to a political bully. As a symbol of support and thanks, citizens across the state are compiling thank you notes and care packages. If you are interested in how you can participate, contact AFT-Wisconsin Organizer Julie Schmid at schmid@aft-wisconsin.org. As a small gesture of support, you can join the Facebook page, "Thank You Wisconsin Dem Senators."

The state assembly took up Walker's repair bill today, and all expectations were that it would pass without a hitch. While Democratic representatives caucused, Republican representatives advanced the bill past the first reading. However, after strenuous objections by both Democratic representatives and the crowd of thousands gathered in the rotunda, the Assembly Speaker moved the bill back to the amenable stage and recessed until Tuesday.

This course of action represents a big opportunity for us. Legislators will be returning to their districts, where they will be fewer filters between them and their constituents. This is our chance to hold our legislators accountable - please join us for canvassing this weekend to "Kill This Bill!"
