University of Alaska Staff United Launches Campaign for A Real Voice

University of Alaska Staff United (UASU) is a local affiliate of the Alaska Public Employees Association (APEA/AFT)--the largest and most experienced organization dedicated to improving the lives of Alaska's public employees. We have launched a campaign to give University of Alaska (UA) staff a real voice.

APEA/AFT is a statewide umbrella organization that is affiliated nationally with the 1.4 million-member American Federation of Teachers. It  represents public employees in more than 22 locals in Alaska--including four locals of University of Alaska faculty and staff.

APEA/AFT represents all University of Alaska employees who currently are covered by union contracts, including full-time professors, adjunct faculty and maintenance staff. Our union has a proven track record of providing strong advocacy and quality representation for University employees since 1973. As the last unorganized group of employees in the University system, classified and APT staff are the last pieece of the puzzle. When we all are organized, we all win!

Experience the APEA/AFT Advantage by joining UASU!

Our union has negotiated successful contracts that provide substantial salary increases and better benefits for employees, and guarantee dignity and fair treatment in the workplace through a grievance procedure that ends in a neutral third party process (arbitration). Joining together with UASU gives staff a vehicle for meaningful shared decision-making with the University's president and chancellors through collective bargaining.

By organizing and joining with UASU, University of Alaska classified and APT staff have the strength and resources we need to shape decisions on issues that matter most to us. What's more, APEA/AFT gives us a voice in Juneau and in Washington, D.C., through lobbyists who work on our behalf in the state Legislature and in the U.S. Congress.

Together, we can help make the University of Alaska a better place to work and educate the students we serve.
